Today I am launching a campaign to elect AUNT SALLY as a new sport for the LONDON OLYMPICS.O.K I know the game is only played in OXFORDSHIRE and a few adjoining counties.
But I think this is one sport that THE UNITED KINGDOM will win GOLD.
After all synchronized swimming, chasing a boot polish tin with a broom, and sliding on a tea tray downhill, are all Olympic sports so why not AUNT SALLY.
For those who have never witnessed this spectacular sport, two teams of eight compete on a throw with the aim of knocking a doll (a phallic shaped wooden target) off a raised pole on a swivel, each player has 6 batons (sticks) over 3 legs (horses).
The winning team is decided by the team hitting off the most dolls per leg.

- AUNT SALLY IS ONE OF THE WORLDS OLDEST TEAM GAMES, DATING FROM PAGAN TIMES AS A FERTILITY RITUAL BY THE PEASANTS IN THE FIELDS,AND MENTIONED IN THE CIVIL WAR WHEN SOLDIERS THREW THEIR BATONS AT HELMETS, AND AS A FAIRGROUND ATTRACTION WHERE AN OLD HAG WAS SEATED WITH A CLAY PIPE IN HER MOUTH, AND PUNTERS WOULD TRY TO KNOCK IT OUT BY THROWING STICKS, UNTIL YE OLDE PC BRIGADE BANNED IT,AND REPLACED BY COCONUT SHY.
